Lock Replacement & Rekeying

Two fixes, one honest question: is the lock worth keeping? Rekeying makes old keys useless for a fraction of the cost of new hardware. Replacement is for locks that have earned retirement. We quote the right one, not the dearer one.

Open Mon to Thu 8am to 4:45pm, Fri to 4:30pm · Unit 19, 193-203 South Pine Road, Brendale QLD 4500

Which one does your door need?

A quick sniff test before you call.

Rekey when...

  • You've moved in and don't know who has keys
  • A key is lost or with someone you'd rather it wasn't
  • The locks are decent and work smoothly
  • You want every door on fewer keys

Replace when...

  • The lock sticks, wobbles or grinds
  • There's break-in damage or corrosion
  • The hardware is bargain-bin grade
  • You're upgrading to smart or keyless anyway
Fitting a new lock to a door with a drill

Either way, bring a lock to the Brendale counter and skip the call-out, or have the van do the house in one visit. New keys get cut on the spot at the key cutting counter, and if the job is really an emergency, start here instead.

What a rekey visit actually looks like

One visit, four steps, no mystery.

  1. 1

    Assess

Every lock gets assessed first. Anything worth replacing rather than rekeying gets named, with a price, before work starts.

  2. 2

    Re-pin

Cylinders come out and get re-pinned on the spot. The locks and doors stay exactly as they were.

  3. 3

    Cut keys

New keys are cut there and then, and only as many as you choose to have in circulation.

  4. 4

    Old keys die

Every old key stops working. Test them yourself before the van leaves.

Not sure if your locks are worth keeping?

Describe them on the phone, or bring one in. You'll get the honest answer either way.

Common questions

What's the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?

Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so old keys stop working and new ones take over. Replacing swaps the whole unit. Rekeying is cheaper and usually enough; replacement is for worn, damaged or outdated hardware.

When is rekeying the wrong choice?

When the lock itself is the problem: sloppy, sticking, corroded or just low-grade. Rekeying a failing lock puts new keys on old faults. That's when we'll show you replacement options instead, with reasons.

Can you repair doors and locks after a break-in?

Call us. Damaged locks can be replaced, and we'll tell you on the phone what else we can do.

Can all my doors work off one key?

Often, if the locks are compatible or swapped to matching cylinders. Ask when you call and we'll tell you what your mix of locks allows.
