Home Security Inspection for Your Locks
The locks you use every day, checked at your property by a locksmith.
For $199 we'll come to your property, inspect the current lock installation and report on how it's functioning. Two examples of what that visit answers: does the deadlock operate correctly, and is your screen door lock functioning as intended? Afterwards, we report our recommendations back to the property owner or accountable person. The locksmith who visits comes out with ABC Locksmiths' mobile service, the part of the business that attends customers' properties. To arrange a visit, call our shop in Brendale on 07 3205 4925 during shop hours.
Open Mon to Thu 8am to 4:45pm, Fri to 4:30pm · Unit 19, 193-203 South Pine Road, Brendale QLD 4500
For homeowners with locks to check
Most households across the Moreton Bay council area own the home they live in: roughly two in three occupied homes were owner-occupied at the 2021 Census, owned outright or with a mortgage. If that's you, the locks on your place are yours, and so is the question of whether they're still doing their job.
Before you call about your locks
Not knowing whether the deadlock operates correctly
A deadlock is the lock a household relies on when it locks up and leaves. As long as it locks, there's little to prompt a closer look.
Queensland Police's home security checklist says deadlocks are the best type of lock to use on entry/exit doors.
It's the first of our inspection's two examples, so a locksmith looks at the deadlock when visiting your property.
Not being sure the screen door lock is functioning as intended
A household relies on the screen door lock when the house is opened up, so it gets plenty of use and not much attention.
A lock can shut and still fall short of what it was fitted to do, and that's the question behind our inspection's second example.
A locksmith looks at it during the visit to your property.
Wondering whether our inspection is the same as the police home security checklist
Queensland Police publish a home security checklist, and in February 2026 Moreton District police, whose area includes Pine Rivers and Redcliffe, pointed residents to a home security assessment to complete at home.
The checklist says it's designed to help you take a fresh look at your home security.
Our inspection is a different thing: a locksmith comes to your property and inspects the locks there.

Checking locks versus changing them
The inspection checks the locks already fitted to your home and how they're functioning. Changing locks is other work. ABC Locksmiths rekeys locks, replaces them, and supplies and fits house lock hardware, and those services have their own page.

Why check locks that seem fine
A lock that still locks rarely gets a second look. Nothing seems wrong, so it's easy to leave alone for years. One major lock maker's care guidance for its own products recommends that inspections and cleaning be done routinely, at least annually. At the 2021 Census, most occupied homes across the Moreton Bay area were lived in by their owners, and in a home like that the locks belong to the people who use them every day. Whether a lock that seems fine gets that second look is up to them, and the maker's advice is a reason to give it one.
Whether the locks at your place are working properly is the question our home security inspection is for. It's a hard one to answer by feel when you're the person who uses those locks every day, because each day they feel much like the day before. The inspection hands it to a locksmith, who looks at them where they're fitted.
The same maker's guidance gives one sign you can notice for yourself: roughness when the key goes in or comes out. A rough key is easy to live with, because you can still lock up, and after a while it becomes how that lock feels. So the next time you use a key at home, pay attention to it on its way in and again on its way out, the two points the guidance names. If it's started to feel rough at either point, that's the sign the maker describes, even if the roughness now feels familiar.
